WOLF SPIDERS

spider-wolf Scientific Name: Lycosidae

Wolf spiders are considered to be one the top 20 spiders on the list of The 10 Most Dangerous Spiders in the World. Their bite is not lethal, but it is painful and medical attention may be necessary if you feel out of the ordinary after being bitten. These spiders are quite aggressive, fast and if they feel threatened, they are known to attack. If you see one of these terrifying spiders in your house, immediate professional spider care is advised. Not only to protect you from a vicious bite, but so you can sleep better. Who can get a rested night’s sleep if they know one of these freaky creatures is lurking close by?

General Information:

Wolf spiders are one of the larger spiders you may encounter in your house. Growing up to 2 inches in length, this aggressive beast can range in color from light orange to gray to brown. The wolf spider’s pedipalps are unusually long, looking almost like an additional pair of short legs extending out in front. As spiderlings, these young spiders may ride around on its mother’s back for a period of time till maturity is reached. These spiders are excellent hunters and can be found in areas where other insects reside.

Signs of an Infestation:

Wolf spiders can live a very long time compared to other spiders, as long as 10-11 years. This is not good news when it comes to an infestation. If each spider lays an egg sac each year and then the wolf spider continues to live on for a decade, continuing to breed year after year, wolf spider infestations become extremely possible. This spider is commonly seen in the fall when it is seeking shelter against the cold outdoor temperatures. It can be found around doors, windows, house plants, basements and garages. All of these places are where other insects can also be found so these areas are prime hunting grounds for the wolf spider.
